The University of Chicago Divinity School seeks to make an appointment in Quranic Studies, effective July 1, 2016, at the assistant professor level. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a robust curriculum in the study of the Qur’an within the wider framework of religious studies and in conversation with other programs and disciplines across the university, based on a strong disciplinary grounding in major subareas of Qur’anic studies. Such subareas might include early Arabic language and literature and the literary neighborhood in which they developed, with proficiency in relevant languages such as Aramaic, Hebrew, Coptic, Greek, or Middle Persian; early Arabic poetry; exegesis (including tafsir, sira, as well as exegetical strands of other literary genres); Qur’anic rhetoric (balagha); and/or paleography and the development of diacritics in Arabic as well as Hebrew and Syriac; issues of oral and written textuality ; and the role of Qur’anic performance in society. The Divinity School is one of the eleven academic units of the University of Chicago, and includes (in order of size of enrollment) Ph.D., M.A., M.Div., and B.A. degree programs. Divinity School faculty teach students in all programs; opportunities for collaboration, in both research and teaching, are limited only by the interest and initiative of the faculty member. بیشتر بخوانید
