PhD Scholarships in the College of Social Sciences at the University of Glasgow

The College of Social Sciences at the University of Glasgow has announced the availability of 24 PhD scholarships for 2015/16.

Some of the key areas of research focus in the College include human rights, social justice, and refugees, asylum and migration. These are supported by the Glasgow Human Rights Network and the Glasgow Refugee, Asylum and Migration Network  which include a wide range of staff from a number of disciplines available to supervise PhDs. Doctoral research fellowships in Politics and Society in the Middle East at University of Oslo

Two PhD Research Fellowships in Politics and Society in the Middle East are available at the Department of Culture Studies and Oriental Languages, University of Oslo.

The persons appointed will be affiliated with the Faculty’s organized research training. The academic work is to result in a doctoral thesis that will be defended at the Faculty with a view to obtaining the degree of PhD. The successful candidates are expected to join the existing research milieu or network and contribute to its development. NINTH SOAS CONFERENCE ON THE QUR’AN

Proposals are invited for the Ninth SOAS Conference on the Qur’an, to be held from Thursday 11 to Saturday 13 February 2016. The conference series seeks to provide a forum for investigating the basic question: how is the Qur’anic text read and interpreted? Our objective is to encompass a global vision of current research trends, and to stimulate discussion, debate and research on all aspects of the Qur’anic text and its interpretation and translation.

While the conference will remain committed to the textual study of the Qur’an and the religious, intellectual and artistic activity that developed around it and drew on it, contributions on all topics relevant to Qur’anic studies are welcomed and attention will also be given to literary, cultural, politico-sociological and anthropological studies relating to the Qur’an. Assistant Professor of Quranic Studies

The University of Chicago Divinity School seeks to make an appointment in Quranic Studies, effective July 1, 2016, at the assistant professor level.   The successful candidate will be expected to develop a robust curriculum in the study of the Qur’an within the wider framework of religious studies and in conversation with other programs and disciplines across the university, based on a strong disciplinary grounding in major subareas of Qur’anic studies.  Such subareas might include early Arabic language and literature and the literary neighborhood in which they developed, with proficiency in relevant languages such as Aramaic, Hebrew, Coptic, Greek, or Middle Persian; early Arabic poetry; exegesis (including tafsir, sira, as well as exegetical strands of other literary genres); Qur’anic rhetoric (balagha);  and/or paleography and the development of diacritics in Arabic as well as Hebrew and Syriac; issues of oral and written textuality ; and the role of Qur’anic performance in society.  The Divinity School is one of the eleven academic units of the University of Chicago, and includes (in order of size of enrollment) Ph.D., M.A., M.Div., and B.A. degree programs.   Divinity School faculty teach students in all programs; opportunities for collaboration, in both research and teaching, are limited only by the interest and initiative of the faculty member. بیشتر بخوانید
