Call for Applications: MA Intellectual Encounters of the Islamicate World at Freie Universität Berlin

The overall goal of the one-year, English-taught MA program Intellectual Encounters of the Islamicate World is to provide international graduate students with a thorough understanding of the deep and diverse links between the Muslim, Jewish and Christian intellectual contributions during the Medieval period. Thus, the program is characterized by a strongly research-driven, interdisciplinary and interreligious approach. Students will become acquainted with the broad spectrum of the different aspects of the Islamicate world, such as rational theology and philosophy, law and legal methodology, as well as material culture and social history. The emphasis will be on primary texts in their original Arabic language. Program teachers and mentors are internationally acclaimed experts in their respective fields of research. The blended-learning program is primarily web-based. Weekly classes are held via our interactive online-learning platform facilitate direct, synchronous communication between participants irrespective of their physical locations. INTERNATIONAL SUMMER ACADEMY FOR DOCTORAL AND POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHERS

As a member-institute of the Max Weber Foundation – German Humanities Institutes Abroad, the Orient-Institut Beirut along with the Forum Transregionale Studien would like to invite scholars from the fields of Literature, Philology, History, Art History, Cultural Anthropology, History of Science and Musicology to apply for an international Summer Academy that will convene from 11 to 19 September 2014 in Beirut on the topic:

LANGUAGE, SCIENCE AND AESTHETICS – ARTICULATIONS OF SUBJECTIVITY AND OBJECTIVITY IN THE MODERN MIDDLE EAST, NORTH AFRICA, SOUTH AND SOUTHEAST ASIA

PROGRAMME

This Summer Academy offers early-career scholars an opportunity to follow up on the debates about modernity, its preconditions and its aftermath by focusing on the multifarious processes and often unique ways in which societies outside Europe have adopted, translated, rejected or produced the global, the modern and tradition since the seventeenth century. It places a specific focus on the notions of subjectivity and objectivity, the individual and the subject, as key notions of modernity, and addresses systems and practices of knowledge production, communication and authority as they developed in the region that extends from Morocco to Indonesia. The Summer Academy engages with the debates on the writing of a more global history by paying particular attention to changing textual and aesthetic practices and language policies. بیشتر بخوانید

Paris Institute for Advanced Studies (Paris IAS) Academic year 2015-2016

The Paris Institute for Advanced Studies welcomes applications from all over the world from established scholars and scientists in the fields of the humanities, the social sciences and related fields for periods of five or nine months, respectively.
The Paris IAS will host twenty international guest researchers for 2014-2015 to work freely on the project of their choice, to benefit from the scientific environment of the Institute, and to create contacts with researchers in the academic institutions of Greater Paris.

Applicants may request residencies for the following periods:
۱ September 2015 to 31 January 2016 (5 months)
or 1 October 2015 to 30 June 2016 (9 months)
or 1 February to 30 June 2016 (5 months)

First Irmgard Coninx Prize Fellowship For Transregional Studies

The Berlin-based Forum Transregionale Studien and the Irmgard Coninx Foundation are pleased to announce the first Irmgard Coninx Prize Fellowship for Transregional Studies. The Prize consists of a research fellowship for up to 10 months in Berlin on a project that relates disciplinary and area-based knowledge in mutually beneficial ways.
