Abstract:
This paper presents a review of osteological and other evidence concerning birds in Fars Province and a description of the use of bird motifs on painted ceramics from the Bakun period through the Shogha period (ca. 5000-1000 BC). Birds appear on ceramics as elements in both complex and simple designs that are based on different designs rules in different periods. These variations in design structure and content also suggest that painted ceramics served different purposes in different periods.
