The Department of Religious Studies at the University of Pittsburgh seeks to appoint a tenure-stream assistant professor of modern/contemporary Islam to begin September 1, 2015, pending budgetary approval. Geographical area and methodological approach are open. Teaching would include introductory courses on Islam (including premodern Islam) and upper-level courses in the candidate’s areas of expertise. We welcome candidates who can develop thematic and comparative courses in broader religious contexts, especially religion and globalization, politics/conflict, gender and sexuality, film, or medicine/science. Classical Arabic Literature

Princeton University’s Department of Near Eastern Studies invites applications for an open-rank position in Classical Arabic Literature.  Research expertise may be in any period of Arabic literature before 1800, and may focus on any region where there was significant production of creative literature in Arabic poetry or prose. The Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations at the University of Chicago invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor specializing in modern Arabic literature (19th-21st centuries), preferably with expertise in another literature of the Islamic world, expected to begin in Autumn 2015.

The successful applicant will have a research and teaching profile with expertise in at least one, and preferably several, of the following sub-fields of literary studies: religion and literature; the modern novel; modern poetry; narrative prose and narratology, postcolonial theory; gender studies; and media studies. Candidates should have a thorough grounding in Arabic, preferably with additional expertise in another language of the Islamic world. Yale-NUS College, a collaboration between the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Yale University, is seeking to hire one or more open rank faculty members in history.  We are particularly interested in candidates who work in the area of the history of the Islamic World (open period).  Other areas under consideration include: Atlantic World (preferably southern hemisphere, period open), or European intellectual history (post-1500, preferably post 1700).
