This is one of the many <\/span>statements that still ring true, and it is not surprising that<\/span> Nahj al-bal\u0101ghah<\/span> (<\/span>The Way<\/span> of Eloquence<\/span>) has remained one of the most revered Arabic texts among both Sunni<\/span>
\nand Shi\u02bei Muslims. These speeches, letters, and sayings attributed to \u02bfAl\u012b ibn Ab\u012b \u1e6c\u0101lib, <\/span>cousin and son-in-law of the Prophet Mu\u1e25ammad, one of the key figures in Islamic his<\/span>tory and considered an outstanding orator, were compiled around ce1000. This volume, <\/span>with Tahera Qutbuddin\u2019s splendid scholarly edition and masterly translation, is a major <\/span>achievement. <\/span>\u2013<\/span> Geert Jan van Gelder, Laudian Professor of Arabic Emeritus, University of Oxford <\/span>Translating the sermons and sayings of Imam \u02bfAli, \u201cthe gate to the city of knowledge,\u201d is <\/span>a momentous task.
