Description <\/strong><\/p>\n

The Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations at the University of Chicago invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor in the History of the Middle East in the Early Islamic Period until the Mongols (i.e., until circa 1258 C.E.) with an expected start date of July 1, 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter.<\/p>\n

Qualifications<\/strong><\/p>\n

The successful candidate should have a demonstrated ability and\/or potential to carry out original independent research and publication on the social, political, and economic history of early Muslim\/Islamic societies; be able to teach a wide range of courses from surveys to advanced seminars; be able to supervise theses and, in time, Ph.D. dissertations; and have a strong command of classical Arabic. Knowledge of an additional relevant language desirable.<\/p>\n

Candidates must have completed all requirements for receipt of a Ph.D. in a field related to the search prior to the start of the appointment.<\/p>\n
